It is with great sadness that I announce the passing away of my dear friend and associate Prof. John K. Zachariah, Principal – Bishop Cotton Boys School, Bangalore, today 24.06.2018 at 14.30 hrs, in Bangalore after a brief illness.

He leaves behind his wife Mrs. Lillian Zachariah, sons Jason and Jonathan and aged father A. D. Zachariah.

The accomplishments of Mr. Zachariah were consistent and in line with the promise that he displayed right from childhood. He was the School Captain of The Cathedral School in 1976, the Head Boy of Frank Anthony Public School in 1978. Leadership was ingrained and recognized in his personality.

With a Master’s in English Literature from Bangalore University, he pursued specialization in English at The Central Institute of English & Foreign Languages, Hyderabad, followed by an M.A in Education Management at the University of Luton, United Kingdom.

After diligently equipping himself for a career in teaching Professor Zachariah taught English at St. Joseph’s College of Arts & Science, Bangalore from 1984-95. He then worked as the Principal of Cathedral Composite Pre-University College and High School, Bangalore from 1995-2010.

From 2010 till date Professor Zachariah has been the Principal of Bishop Cotton Boys’ School.

He was also Chairman, Education Committee, Karnataka Central Diocese, Church of South India 2001-2002, 2003-2005. He served as Convenor, Education Committee, Karnataka Central Diocese, Church of South India which manages 23 schools and colleges in Karnataka State. He was the Managing Trustee of the Sarvodaya International Trust; an organization that promotes Gandhian ideals and values.

He was also Inspector of ICSE / ISC schools and Chairman of the Regional Committee for National Awards for Teachers, 2014.

With such an illustrious career it is not surprising that a number of awards were bestowed upon him.

He was the recipient of Ed Tech review’s Principal of the Year (South) 2018.The Most Influential Principals in India award – 2016 of the World Education Congress. The DEROZIO award for Education and Human Enrichment, 2014 instituted by the Council For Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) New Delhi. Best Principal award for Educational Leadership, 2013, Instituted by the Newspapers Association of India. Mother Teresa award for Education 2013, instituted by Mother Teresa International Committee.

Professor Zachariah was multifaceted, aesthetically creative, generous and compassionate. His organizational skill was exemplary. The unforgettable, deep baritone of this perfect gentleman will ring through the corridors of every institution that he associated himself with.

Professor John.K.Zachariah will be deeply missed.
